Toronto Short Stays operates a direct-to-host furnished stay marketplace. We collect only the personal information needed to run listing discovery, inquiry routing, host verification, moderation, fraud prevention, and optional marketplace updates.
1. What we collect
Guests: name, email, phone number if provided, inquiry dates, guest count, stay purpose, message content, selected listing, source channel, consent records, and basic anti-spam signals.
Hosts: account details, contact details, company/profile information, listing details, response metrics, verification submissions, documents uploaded for review, and moderation history.
Reports: report reason, report details, optional reporter email, listing reference, public report status, and a hashed reporter key used for anti-spam and duplicate detection. We do not need to store a reporter’s raw IP address for this workflow.
2. Why we collect and use information
We use personal information to create accounts, display listings, route inquiries to hosts, let hosts reply, manage guest/host dashboards, check listing quality, review reports, prevent spam or fraud, and keep operational records.
Guest inquiry details are shared with the selected host so the host can respond to that specific accommodation request. Hosts are expected to use guest information only for that inquiry unless the guest separately agrees to another purpose.
3. Consent and marketing distinction
Operational consent: when you send a listing inquiry, you consent to sharing that inquiry with the selected host for the purpose of responding to your stay request. This is separate from marketing consent.
Marketing consent: marketplace updates, saved-search matches, partner offers, newsletters, or similar commercial messages are optional. We only send these where we have appropriate consent or another lawful basis. You can withdraw marketing consent at any time.
Every commercial electronic message we send should identify the sender and include an unsubscribe mechanism. Unsubscribe requests are honoured as soon as reasonably possible.
4. Host verification documents
Verification documents are used for marketplace trust and safety review, such as identity, selfie/business confirmation, proof of right to list, and STR registration proof where applicable. These documents are not public listing content.
Access to verification documents is restricted to authenticated hosts for their own documents and platform administrators performing moderation review.
5. Retention
Inquiry records are normally retained for up to two years for operational history, dispute handling, response-time analytics, and fraud prevention, unless a longer period is needed for legal, security, accounting, or dispute reasons.
Verification documents should be removed or anonymized when they are no longer required for trust, safety, or legal compliance. Report records may be retained to identify repeated abuse and document moderation decisions.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We share guest inquiry information with the selected host. We may use service providers for hosting, email delivery, storage, analytics, security, and moderation tooling. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect users, hosts, listings, or the platform.
We do not sell guest inquiry data to advertisers. We do not process payments on this marketplace.
7. Safeguards and access
We use access controls, private document routes, non-public storage for verification documents, randomized upload names, and moderation logs to reduce risk. No online system can guarantee absolute security, so users should avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive information.
You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational retention limits.
8. Contact
For privacy requests, corrections, report follow-up, or withdrawal of optional marketing consent, contact the marketplace operator using the contact method provided on the site or in marketplace emails.
